The most surprising thing about the first practice session for this weekend's Molson Indy Vancouver was finding series points leader Cristiano da Matta near the bottom of the results. He didn't put in many laps and they were all well off the pace.

Kenny Brack put in the fastest time of the session with a 1:01.359, followed by Team KOOL Green drivers Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy. da Matta's teammate Christian Fittipaldi was fourth and Michel Jourdain was fifth.

Early in the session, Michael Andretti decided to remove the rear wing from his car by backing it into the tire barrier at the exit of turn one. At the end of the session, Scott Dixon glanced off the wall near the pit entrance.

This ninety minute session was the first look at how the cars might perform on this 1.781 mile temporary street circuit in downtown Vancouver. The weather was sunny and clear with a light breeze and temperatures around 70F.

The next time the cars will take to the track is for this afternoon's one-hout qualifying session, starting at 2:10PM PDT.
