"I'm very happy that we were able to put it on the provisional pole," said Tracy. "I had a good first run on the first set of tires when I did the time, then we made a couple changes."

Tracy appeared to cruise around the Fundidora Park circuit at 98.089 mph. His time was 0.153 seconds over Patrick Racing's Oriol Servia. Tracy's teammate Patrick Carpentier was third fastest today.

"I think we had a good car all day," said Servia. "We had a good car in St. Pete. You know, we'll see tomorrow."

However, tomorrow is another day and the best time over the two days will set the starting lineup for round two of the Bridgstone Presents the Champ Car World Series powered by Ford. Tracy gets one point today for the driver points toward the 2003 championship.

Rookie sensation Sebastien Bourdais was fourth quickest today in the Newman-Haas livery.

Motorsport.com will have a full report following the press conference.
