CHICAGO - Team KOOL Green drivers Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti finished 12th and 15th in today's 225-lap Target Grand Prix at the 1.029-mile Chicago Motor Speedway oval.
Tracy improved 10 spots from his 22nd-place starting position and brought home one point for his effort. He remains in eighth place in the standings with 53 points.
Teammate Franchitti led 19 laps in the race and was looking at a points-paying finish before a pit lane speed limit violation and corresponding drive-through penalty dropped him out of contention. He moves from second to third place in the standings with 81 points.
Based on today's results, Team KOOL Green is donating $16,613 to the 100 Black Men of America, as part of a partnership with the "100" organization. Total donation to date, including funds raised at previous races in Detroit and Cleveland, is $52,177.81, with two races - Houston and Fontana - remaining in the program this season. The donated funds benefit the organization's urban technology program, which increases access to computers, technology and training in urban communities.
Points leader Kenny Brack earned his third career win, finishing 4.48 seconds ahead of last week's race winner Patrick Carpentier.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(Started 22nd / Finished 12th / 8th in standings with 53 points)
"It was follow the leader the whole way. With the new wing you can't get close to the car in front of you - it's ten times worse than when we went to speedway wings. We got one point at the end when Max (Papis) ran out of fuel on the last lap, but that's a lot of work for just one point. I know one point has made a difference in the championship before, but it's not very satisfying for all the hard work put in by Team KOOL Green."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(Started 10th / Finished 19th / 3rd in the standings with 81 points)
"We had a fuel pick-up problem early on and we had to pit out of sequence, but the yellows fell in such a way that it didn't really hurt us. On my last pit stop, I did my usual thing of resetting the fuel and as I headed out of the pits I looked down and noticed that the pit lane (speed) limiter had reset itself for some reason or had gone off. I don't understand why. By the time I got the button down we'd gone over the limit. So that was the end of that. It's a shame, because we had a very good race car and Team KOOL Green did a great job in the pits, and I really thought we were in good position to take a run at the win."
