Zanardi Quickest In Morning Practice

Toronto, Ontario (July 17, 1998) -- FedEx Championship Series points leader Alex Zanardi (Target Reynard Honda) posted the fastest time Friday during the morning practice session for Sunday's Molson Indy in Toronto.

Zanardi, bidding to tie Al Unser Jr.'s FedEx Championship Series record for consecutive victories (4), averaged 103.828 miles per hour (59.672 seconds) on his quickest lap of the 1.721-mile temporary street circuit at Exhibition Place. He holds a 155-96 lead over Greg Moore (Player's/Indeck Reynard Mercedes) in the points standings entering Sunday's 11th round of the championship, which will be televised on a tape-delay basis by ABC-TV, beginning at 3 p.m. ET.

Michael Andretti (Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Swift Ford) was second Friday morning at 103.683 mph (59.755 seconds), followed by Bryan Herta (Shell Reynard Ford) at 103.184 mph (1:00.044). Rounding out the top five were defending race champion Mark Blundell (Motorola PacWest Mercedes), at 102.886 mph (1:00.218) and Jimmy Vasser (Target Reynard Honda), at 102.663 mph (1:00.349).

Provisional qualifying begins at 2:30 p.m. ET.
