Team Rahal'S Jimmy Vasser scores top 10 result in Toronto with sixth place finish.
VASSER SCORES FOURTH TOP-10 RESULT OF SEASON - Team Rahal driver Jimmy Vasser scored a sixth-place finish in today's Molson Indy Toronto to lead all Ford-powered drivers. Cristiano da Matta extended his points lead again as he won his fifth race of the season, his fourth in a row and his third from the pole this season. Kenny Brack finished second, da Matta's teammate, Christian Fittipaldi was third, while Shinji Nakano and Scott Dixon rounded out the top five. Player's/Forsythe driver Alex Tagliani scored his fifth top 10 result of the season by finishing seventh, as did his teammate, Patrick Carpentier, who finished 10th.
JIMMY VASSER (#8 Shell Ford) - Finished 6th
"Well, it was nice to finish a race, you know. I've haven't been finishing much and it felt good to finally finish one. We had some good strategy that kept us on the lead lap and it was nothing stellar and nothing we were too proud of, but these days we're just happy to finish."
HOW FRUSTRATING WAS THE LAPPED TRAFFIC TODAY? "Well, I mean Townsend Bell ... (Adrian) Fernandez got out of the way. He was a lap down and he heard what I heard in the drivers' meeting and Townsend Bell didn't. I feel bad for (Bruno) Junquiera because he was just a victim of circumstance. Bell wasn't too impressive today and I don't know what he was racing for."
ALEX TAGLIANI (#33 Player's/Indeck Ford) - Finished 7th
"It was tough race for us out there today. It was really hard to pass, like it always is here, but we managed to work our way through the field and score some points. I've got to thank my guys for giving me a good car today, and now we'll look forward to getting back at it next weekend in Cleveland."
PATRICK CARPENTIER (#32 Player's/Indeck Ford) - Finished 10th
"It was a tough race. We had problems with the traction control a little bit, had to turn it off and we because of that we had a little bit of wheelspin. But at the end the front of the car wouldn't turn and it was pushing like crazy and things we're going well. And it just went along with how things have gone for us this weekend. We seem to have had a lot of problems and we just couldn't get going all weekend long, and it was the same in the race." DISAPPOINTING RESULT, ESPECIALLY HERE ON HOME SOIL? "Yeah, for sure. We came struggling and we left struggling and it wasn't good because we were hoping to be a little bit better. We've had some good races this year where we've battled at the front but this one didn't go well from the get go."
MICHEL JOURDAIN, JR. (#9 Office Depot Ford) - Finished 12th
WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE BETWEEN YOU, FRANCHITTI AND TAGLIANI? "Well, I let Jimmy (Vasser) go by and then I don't know what happened. Dario was trying to come down the inside of me and I guess Alex hit him and I had nowhere to go. I think the car was pretty good and we were putting in some good laps times following behind (Cristiano) da Matta, but it was very difficult to let guys go by."
MARIO DOMINGUEZ (#55 Herdez Competition Ford) - Finished 18th (mechanical)
"We're not sure what happened out there. I was just going along and suddenly the car shut off. We tried everything we could think of to try and get it going again but nothing worked. It's unfortunate because I like this track and I thought I was driving well enough to get a good result."
