"We had a really productive session this morning and the Marlboro car was good right out of the box. We saw right away that we had a good basic set-up for the one-mile oval, so we went to work on our testing program, trying different changes to continue to improve the car.

In the afternoon session, we were working on our race set-up and the car was running really well. Midway through the practice we had a problem shifting so we took the car back into the garage to look at it. We tried to get back out in my 3X car but because of the yellows, we never got out again."

-- Helio Castroneves, Marlboro Team Penske, #3 2001 Marlboro Honda Reynard
-- 5th fastest overall, 23.939 sec.

"We worked on both qualifying and race set-up today, and the Marlboro car was pretty good in both qualifying and race trim. We're suffering with a bit of understeer so we didn't get as much speed in the afternoon as we thought we would. Near the end of the second session, I was entering turn three when all of the sudden it felt like something in the left rear broke. On closer inspection, it was determined that the lower wishbone had failed."

-- Gil de Ferran, Marlboro Team Penske, #1 2001 Marlboro Honda Reynard
-- 17th fastest overall - 24.110 sec.
