WHEN: June 19 - 21, 1998

TEAM KOOL GREEN AT PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

Paul Tracy, #26 Team KOOL Green Reynard/Honda/Firestone: (Started 13th / Finished 7th at Portland in 1997; Currently 9th in PPG Cup standings with 32 points)

“We’re starting to gel as a team and I think I’m getting closer to that first win for Team KOOL Green. But this series is so competitive, to win you have to do everything right – qualify up front, have fast pit stops and run a smart race -- plus get the breaks in traffic and with yellows. Portland is one of the few tracks I haven’t won on, so this race would be a good time for it to all come together.”

John Dick, Race Engineer for #26 Team KOOL Green Reynard/Honda/Firestone:

“We should be a lot faster a lot sooner at Portland. The key to success at Portland is to have a car with good balance, good straight-line speed and you have to be able to come off of Turn 10 really fast. We think we have a setup that will let Paul do that. It’s basically the same setup that worked well for Dario in a test at Portland in April and that also worked for Paul in a recent test at Mid-Ohio. In addition, I think we’ll have a pretty good advantage with the Firestone tires, as we were a second under the lap record in our tire testing at Portland.”

Dario Franchitti, #27 Team KOOL Green Reynard/Honda/Firestone: (Started 5th / Finished 26th in Portland in 1997; Currently 7th in PPG Cup standings with 50 points)

“I’m really looking forward to racing at Portland. We’ve been strong on the two road courses we’ve run this season (2nd at Long Beach and 4th at Detroit) and we had a great test there in April. I can tell you that Team KOOL Green is going to Portland expecting to win. Anything else will be short of our goal.”

Naoki Hattori, #27 Team KOOL Green Lola (PPG-Dayton Indy Lights Championship): (Started 13th / Finished 24th in Portland in 1997; Currently 10th overall with 26 points)

“We showed last weekend that we can be as fast as anybody in the series. It was very disappointing for me and the rest of Team KOOL Green to go out of the race so early. But now we know we have a good team and race car. We’ll do another test this week at Blackhawk Farms and work some more on our road course setup.”
