FT. WORTH, TEXAS - Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti look to score big for Team KOOL Green in the Lone Star State at the inaugural Firestone Firehawk 600 at Texas Motor Speedway, the first oval track event on the 2001 CART schedule.
Paul Tracy, #26 Team KOOL Green Honda-Reynard: (First race at TMS; currently 4th in the standings with 26 points)
"I look at the race in Fort Worth and see a bunch of points just waiting to be picked up. I like fast tracks (Tracy owns the track record at Michigan International Speedway at 234.949 mph) and side-by-side racing, and I think we'll see a lot of that during the race. Dario learned a little about this place when he was here testing, so I'm confident that between the two of us, along with the Team KOOL Green engineers, we'll get the setup we need. Fortunately, it's a long race so we can make adjustments if we need to. But I'd sure like to hit it on the money early in the weekend."
Dario Franchitti, #27 Team KOOL Green Honda-Reynard: (First race at TMS; currently 7th in the standings with 12 points)
"This race is going to be a real challenge for the teams, and it's these situations where having excellent engineers really pays off. It's a new track for the series and there wasn't much testing done here during the off season. I was fortunate to get one day of testing in, so at least we won't be starting from ground zero at Team KOOL Green. But there's no doubt we've all got our work cut out for us. It's a big, fast track and you really want the car to be as close to perfect as possible every time you're out there."
Barry Green - Team Owner
"It's going to be an interesting weekend in Texas; it always is for Team KOOL Green. We've won two out of the three races we've run in the Lone Star state (Franchitti and Tracy won Houston in 1998 and 1999, respectively) and we intend to keep our winning percentage high. It's always a challenge when you're racing at a new venue. But we look at it as an opportunity. We've prepared and done all of our homework. Now, we're anxious for the test."
It may be CART's first visit to Texas Motor Speedway, but Team KOOL Green is no stranger to victory in the Lone Star state. Dario Franchitti scored the team's first Texas win in Houston in 1998, while Paul Tracy led Franchitti to a 1-2 finish at the same venue in 1999.
TKG had the crowd on their feet at the premiere of Sly Stallone's new racing movie, Driven. After the crew showed off their award winning skills with a pit stop demonstration, Paul Tracy drove his #26 Team KOOL Green Champ Car down Hollywood Boulevard and stopped to pull a few donuts in front of the crowd.
