TEAM KOOL GREEN AT THE CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY
WHAT: Marlboro 500 -- Round 19 of 19 in the FedEx Championship Series
WHEN: October 30 -- November 1
WHERE: California Speedway -- Fontana, California
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN REYNARD/HONDA/FIRESTONE: (Started 19TH / Finished 26th at California Speedway in 1997; Currently 13th overall with 61 PPG Cup points)
"We need to do well at Fontana to finish this season on a high note for Team KOOL Green. Of course, with a million-dollar prize for winning the race, I' m sure there's a lot of guys who are thinking the same way. I'm confident we can do well at Fontana because we had a good test session there earlier in the season. We were also a serious contender at Michigan, which is almost an identical track. We led some laps there, so I think we should expect to be on the pace this weekend.
"It's no secret either that I like running on the super speedways like Michigan and Fontana. For me, there's nothing like the experience of racing wheel-to-wheel at 230 mph."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN REYNARD/HONDA/FIRESTONE: (Did Not Enter at California Speedway in 1997; Currently 2nd overall with 160 PPG Cup points)
"With second place in the championship on the line, this is probably the most important race of my Champ Car career. And I know everyone at Team KOOL Green feels the same way. We had a great time in Surfers Paradise, but we've put all that behind us now and we're completely focused on getting the job done in Fontana.
"The California Speedway is an amazing facility and a great place to stage the CART season-finale. Add in a chance to win a million dollars, and you have all the makings of a world-class sporting event."
NAOKI HATTORI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN LOLA T97/20: (Started 9th / Finished 6th at California Speedway in 1997; Currently 9th overall with 66 points)
"This is my last race for Team KOOL Green (before moving up to Champ Cars with Walker Racing next season), so I'd like to have a good result. I had a good race here last year -- my best race on a super speedway -- so I'm hopeful that we can be competitive again. But I've still got a lot to learn about racing on ovals and this weekend will be another lesson."
