Herdez-backed drivers Michel Jourdain Jr. & Memo Gidley were in line to score points in the Honda Grand Prix of Monterey. Jourdain Jr. ran up to 12, but gearbox problems didn't allow him to continue in the race. Meanwhile, Gidley struggled with a non-well balanced car to finish 13 after starting 22nd.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #19 Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "The engine was better for the race and the car ok. for a while. Then the gearbox began to leak oil on the rear tires. Finally, the gearbox broke and we were forced to retire."

Memo Gidley, Car #71 Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "We've got the car working, but we couldn't get the right balance. I made contact twice, one with a PacWest car and the second with Patrick (Carpentier) in Turn 11 and that caused me to spin around, but I spun back around and a yellow flag during my last pit stop helped me to regain positions. The crew did good pit stops."
