Indianapolis, IN (November 13, 1997) Derek Daly SpeedCentre Racing School (DDS) and Team Green announced today the Final Five for the 1997 Team Green Academy American Driver Development Program, based at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The finalists were chosen from the original group of 25 drivers following two-day advanced driving sessions at DDS in October. Earning a return trip to Las Vegas are Paul Edwards, Tim Enoch, Alex Gurney, Joey Hand, and Chris Menninga. (Bios on following page)

"With all the talent that is present in the Academy, it is a daunting task selecting just these drivers for the Finals," said SpeedCentre owner Derek Daly. "In the end, however, these five young men rose to the top and earned the chance to return."

The Final Five return to SpeedCentre on December 2nd -6th for a five-day advanced driving session including engineering and media communication seminars. Along with earning a contract with Team Green, the winning driver receives sponsorship assistance an d the prestigious coaching program. The goal of the Academy is to take American drivers to the upper echelons of racing.

"This is the most significant driver training program ever implemented," commented Daly, a former Formula One and Indy car driver. "The ability to develop specialized and individual programs for drivers according to their ever changing needs is absolutel y unique in the racing world today."

The Academy judging panel includes Daly, DDS Chief Instructor Bob Earl, Kim and Barry Green of Team Green, 1996 CART Champion Jimmy Vasser, engineering expert Carroll Smith plus distinguished motor sports journalists Gordon Kirby and Jeremy Shaw.

1997 Team Green Academy Final Five Bios

Paul Edwards, 19 (Santa Maria, CA) Paul has spent the last two seasons racing in the British Slick 50 Formula Ford Zetec Championship Series. In May at Brands Hatch, he became the first American driver ever to score a victory in the highly competitive international series.

Tim Enoch, 25 (Mission Viejo, CA) Tim spent the 1997 season racing in the Barber Formula Dodge Midwest series and captured the championship with ten wins.

Alex Gurney, 23 (Newport Beach, CA) Alex is the youngest son of Formula One and Indy Car winner and current CART entrant, Dan Gurney. He spent the 1997 season in the Barber Formula Dodge Midwest Series where he gained nine wins and finished second in the championship to fellow Team Green Final Five member Tim Enoch. He is also a 1997 graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Joey Hand, 18 (Elk Grove, CA) Joey spent the 1997 season in the Karting ranks, capturing two International Karting Federation Championships (125cc and Formula Y divisions).

Chris Menninga, 23 (Pella, IA) Chris spent his second season in the Barber Dodge Pro Series where he captured 10 top ten finishes including his first win at the season finale at Laguna Seca. These strong performances brought him a fourth place finish in the final point standings.
