TEAM AUSTRALIA COMPLETES SUCCESSFUL TEST AT SPECTACULAR MONT TREMBLANT
Team Australia drivers Will Power and Simon Pagenaud have successfully completed a two-day test at the challenging Mont Tremblant circuit in Quebec, Canada over the past two days.
The Aussie Vineyards-backed Champ Car squad worked on the set-up of Team Australia's two DP01s over the course of the test, where seven teams and 12 drivers were present at the 2.65-mile (4.26-kilometre) permanent road course that will host Round 6 of this year's Champ Car World Series on June 29 to July 1 and end a 39-year absence for Champ Car at the Canadian circuit.
The fast and flowing layout is not for the faint-hearted and even after the first day of testing on Thursday May 24, which was a half-day of track activity before a full day of testing on Friday, was flagged as a favourite by Team Australia drivers Pagenaud and Power.
Power was sixth on the first day as he tested new parts from gearbox manufacturer Hewland, while Pagenaud was one place higher in fifth fastest. Day two saw Power and Pagenaud sixth and seventh respectively, with the Team Australia duo only half a second behind the fastest time of the weekend set by championship leader and defending champion Sebastien Bourdais.
Team Australia now looks to Round 4 of the Champ Car World Series as the green and gold Aussie Vineyards squad heads to Portland International Raceway for the Mazda Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland Presented by Joe's Sports and Outdoor in Portland, Oregon on June 10.
WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY --
Will Power -- #5 Aussie Vineyards Team Australia DP01
"Not a bad test at all, in fact it was a good overall test," said Power.
"I think we will be in great form in Portland. We made a lot of positive changes that helped a lot and helped us to understand the car a little better.
"It was a very worthwhile test, no mechanical issues, the weather held out for us and the guys did a fantastic job as usual. We are ready to go racing."
Simon Pagenaud -- #15 Aussie Vineyards Team Australia DP01
"Overall the test went great," said Pagenaud.
"We picked up some good lap times today and throughout the day and a half, we checked off some pretty important items on our checklist."
"I feel confident and I think the team did an amazing job, everyone works so well together, they are all very well connected and I just can't wait for Portland."
Derrick Walker -- Team Australia Co-Owner
"The first time for Champ Car at the Mont Tremblant circuit I would have to say it was a success and all the drivers really enjoyed the track," said Walker.
"It's a real driver's track and the people here were very hospitable towards us.
"It was great for the boys to drive on a 'real' road course again. It will showcase Champ Car very well and we are looking forward to coming back for Round Six on July 1."
Craig Gore -- Team Australia Co-Owner
"Mont Tremblant certainly seems to be one of those circuits that will sort the men out from the boys," said Gore.
"Both Simon and Will have taken a liking to it and I am sure that the work that the team has done over the past two days will but Team Australia in a good position for Round 6 at the circuit in a month's time.
"The atmosphere and morale in the team is fantastic and everyone is really looking forward to the fourth round at Portland. Will has his eyes on regaining the championship lead and Simon has shown that he is on the verge of doing some very big things.
"The Champ Car season is about to get busy and Team Australia can't wait. We've never been in a stronger position as a team and Derrick and the boys are ready to get the Aussie Vineyards cars back on top."
