VISA JOINS TEAM AUSTRALIA
The Team Australia entries of Alex Tagliani and Marcus Marshall will race with VISA signage for the first time at this weekend's San Jose Grand Prix -- the eighth round of the Champ Car World Series, presented by Bridgestone.
VISA is the latest of a list of major corporate partners to join Team Australia, which was created at the beginning of this year by Australian businessmen Craig Gore and John Fish and Indianapolis racing identity Derrick Walker.
Today's VISA announcement, which has been signed with VISA Australia, is the beginning of a major partnership with the Team Australia organization which will incorporate six different categories, racing in eight different countries on four different continents next year.
The total program will be exposed to a live audience of 10 million fans, a TV viewing audience of more than 1.4 billion and produce a minimum of between five and six hours of branded viewing.
The full program, including cars and drivers, is expected to take a total investment of almost $US20 million and will be officially launched in September.
VISA is already on the two cars which are campaigned by Gore's WPS Racing team in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series.
WPS Financial Services and VISA combined forces at the beginning of this year with the Bendigo Bank to produce the highly-successful V8 Supercar VISA card in Australia.
"There is no doubt that a relationship with a major international brand such as VISA is a fantastic development for our team and for the sport of Champ Car and the other categories in which we are involved," said Gore.
"Today's news is just the start of some terrific announcements we intend to make over the coming months.
"I think the involvement of VISA is testimony to the great progression Champ Car has made in the last 18 months and to what a terrific future is has."
Walker, who is one of the stalwarts of the Champ Car Series as both a manager and owner, was delighted when asked to have the team prepare the VISA signage for the cars this week.
"It is always great to have a brand like VISA on your cars," said Walker.
"I would like to think that this is the start of a long and successful relationship and that we can get to the point where our performances on track emulate the success of VISA.
"I look forward to seeing the cars on track this weekend with VISA beaming out from the front wings."
Team Australia also has great support from Aussie Vineyards, WPS Financial Services, Qantas and the R.M Williams clothing company.
AUSTRALIAN TELEVISION: The San Jose round of the Champ Car World Series will be telecast on Network Ten at 1.40am (AEST) on August 2.
