FedEx Championship Series and Target Work Together to Provide Latest Series Updates Via Official Hotline CART Online (March 5, 1998) -- Championship Auto Racing Teams and Target Stores are partnering to provide 1998 FedEx Championship Series updates via the Target Fan Phone, which becomes the Official Hotline of the FedEx Championship Series. Racing fans throughout the United States and Canada can hear the latest CART news by calling 1-800-297-9590, toll free. The Target Fan Phone provides complete practice, qualifying, race results and other daily news from each FedEx Championship Series event, shortly after the checkered flag waves. Between events, callers can hear reports previewing the next race and offering updated news, PPG Cup point standings, TV schedules and other developments. Gary Gerould, ABC and ESPN reporter, will be the trackside "voice" of the Target Fan Phone throughout the season, beginning March 9. Target Stores has sponsored the toll-free Target Fan Phone since 1996. "We realize that racing fans are always dying to hear the latest news about their favorite teams and drivers, so we’re happy to provide this service for the racing community once again," said Pat Leahy, Target corporate advertising manager. Target also serves as primary sponsor of the FedEx Championship Series entries driven by Jimmy Vasser (Target Reynard Honda) and Alex Zanardi (Target Reynard Honda), the past two PPG Cup champions. Target/Chip Ganassi Racing chases its third consecutive PPG Cup this season in an attempt to join Penske Racing (1981-83) as the only teams in FedEx Championship Series history to win three consecutive PPG Cup titles.
