6th "top five" of the season
For the Team Australia, the Surfers Paradise rendezvous in Australia turned out to be special. Even if the team comes from Indianapolis (USA), its main sponsor Aussie Vineyards and one of the drivers are Australians. It increased the stakes and the pressure of the last but one race. In this context, Simon Pagenaud had his part of responsibility. Ranking sixth on the starting grid, the Frenchman built up once again a solid peformance.
Dealing with a radio failure all the race long, the driver and his team chose however a successful strategy, enabling Simon to score a new "top five" for the sixth time this season. This performance saves the team's weekend, Will Power starting from the pole position has seen his victory hopes dashed after a collision. Simon relies now on the last race, the 9th, 10th and 11th November at Mexico City to secure his first podium of the season.
Simon Pagenaud : "We did an excellent job on the car set-up, in the testing sessions and then in the qualifying ones. I had in my hands an incredible car for the race so. It's essential for this type of event, you have to trust your machine to be fast. I've already raced in Monaco, but there's no possible comparison with Surfers Paradise. For the Rookie I am, discovering this track was somehow scaring. The pace is there extremely fast. But once you found your marks, this is eventually a great moment. Unfortunately, the race didn't live up to our expectations. We saved our fuel most of the time, and so we didn't pushed as much as we could. I scored a good result, and learned a lot in this first season. That was my goal, to prepare the next year, be ready to win some races and able to challenge to final title."
