Ryan Briscoe places 8th in final qualifying and will start in 11th position at Sunday's Lexmark Indy 300 at Surfers Paradise
SURFERS PARADISE, Qld, Australia, Oct. 21, 2006 -- Ryan Briscoe (#10 CDW / RuSPORT / Ford-Cosworth / Lola / Bridgestone) placed 8th in final qualifying for the Lexmark Indy 300 in Surfers Paradise, Australia. He will start in 11th position tomorrow for the race, based on his combined times including Friday's provisional qualifying session.
"I'm really happy with the qualifying session today," said Briscoe. "I was really coming to terms with the level of grip that you can get from the alternate tires by the end of the session. I didn't get the most out of the first set, not knowing the grip, but got it by the end on the second set. I managed to put in a good lap early and was hoping to improve on that when we got the red flag. In the end, I'm happy with 8th in that session. I'm excited to start in my first Champ Car race tomorrow."
"I don't think today's grid position represents how good of a day we had with Ryan and the whole #10 team," stated RuSPORT president, Jeremy Dale. "Ryan got to a comfort level in the car today that allowed him to really start pushing the car hard and that was reflected in today's final qualifying session. The track was a bit slower because of a mid day rain storm, so as a result most of the lap times were slower than Friday's provisional qualifying session. For Ryan, the key tomorrow will be to stay out of trouble early on and get a complete race distance under his belt. It will be good to see the #10 car start under a green flag once again."
Dale also added, "With regard to Justin, he will be back in the US in time to see an orthopedic surgeon on Monday morning to assess his injury and determine the best course of treatment. After this point we'll have more insight into his ability to drive the #9 car in Mexico City."
