Champ Car World Series Statement on the Departure of Michel Jourdain, Jr.

INDIANAPOLIS (January 6, 2005) -- What follows is a statement from the Champ Car World Series on today's announcement that two-time Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford race winner Michel Jourdain Jr. will leave the series in order to join ppc Racing in the NASCAR Busch Series.

Jourdain scored Champ Car wins in 2003 at Milwaukee and Montreal in a season that saw him finish a career-high third in the standings. A nine-year veteran of the series, Jourdain made 152 starts and earned nine podium finishes. He finished 12th in the 2004 Champ Car standings with two podiums.

"We are disappointed to lose a driver of the caliber of Michel from our series and we wish him success in his new endeavor. Michel's decision to stay in Champ Car after the departure of his former team prior to the start of the season was a key in building momentum for a successful 2004 and is something that Champ Car will always be grateful for."
Champ Car President Dick Eidswick
