CHICAGO (July 26, 2000) - Shell * today announced it has signed a new multi-year agreement to serve as a primary sponsor for the Team Rahal championship car operation on the CART FedEx Championship Series. Shell, now in its fifth year as the major sponsor of Team Rahal's No. 8 Ford Reynard driven by Kenny Brack, will continue its involvement with the Hilliard, Ohio-based racing operation for several additional seasons by serving as the primary colors on Brack's machine as well as an associate sponsor on Max Papis' Miller Lite car. Shell began its involvement with Bobby Rahal's team in 1993 as an associate sponsor on Rahal's championship car. "We are proud to be extending our relationship with Team Rahal on the very competitive CART FedEx Championship Series," said Michael Iribarren, general manager marketing, for the Shell brand. "Our partnership with a great organization like Team Rahal and working with outstanding drivers like Kenny and Max helps continue our motorsports message to our retailers, suppliers and customers. Shell believes Kenny Brack and Team Rahal will lead us to the winner's circle." "David Letterman, (Rahal's co-owner), and I are thrilled to have a tremendous partner like Shell with our team for the future," said Rahal, the three-time CART champion and interim CART president and CEO. "Our association with Shell gives us one of the most prestigious brands in the world and Shell has also been a great sponsor of CART events. I can't say enough about Shell's support for our team, on a local, regional and national level." "I cannot emphasize enough how proud we are that Shell will continue its involvement in the CART FedEx Championship Series," said CART senior vice-president of marketing Pat Leahy. "Shell is among the most admired brands in the world and we regard this sponsorship of Team Rahal as a strong endorsement of the CART trail. Shell also has been a great sponsor at many CART tracks and we are very grateful for their support." Brack, the 1999 Indy 500 winner and 1998 Indy Racing League champion, joined Team Rahal this year to drive the Shell Ford Reynard on the 20-race CART FedEx series and has already scored two podium finishes and ranks in the top-five in the current point standings. Brack also leads the current Jim Trueman "CART Rookie of the Year" with 66 points." Rahal, the PPG Cup champion in 1986, 1987 and 1992, joined forces with television entertainer Letterman in 1996 to form Team Rahal after serving as a co-owner with Carl Hogan from 1992 to 1995. The New Albany,Ohio, veteran won 24 career Indy car races and has 18 pole positions. In his 17-year career, Rahal amassed over $16 million in earnings, ranking third all-time.

Both Team Rahal cars -- the No. 8 Shell Reynard driven by Brack and the No. 7 Miller Lite Reynard driven by Papis -- utilize Formula Shell* motor oil and lubricants in their 900-horsepower Ford Cosworth power plants during the 20-race 2000 CART FedEx Championship Series.
