PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING WAS REPLACED BY A SECOND PRACTICE SESSION DUE TO LIMITED TRACK TIME AT THE TAYLOR WOODROW GRAND PRIX OF SAN JOSE; McDONALD'S DRIVER BOURDAIS FASTEST WHILE PACIFICARE DRIVER SERVIA SECOND

OVERALL: Track work was being completed in the morning therefore the first Champ Car practice session took place at 1:50 p.m. PT rather than the previously scheduled 10:15 a.m. PT. Due to the limited track time, Champ Car officials determined there would be two practice sessions rather than one practice session and one provisional qualifying session.

Oriol Servia, No. 2 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: (said jokingly:) "I'm very ticked off to be P2 because I was P1 most of the session. The PacifiCare car was good and I know we have more for tomorrow. The track is very bumpy and it's going to be very tight time-wise in qualifying tomorrow; every detail will be very important for success. Like every street course, the more grip the track gets, the better we get. I'm very happy to see so many fans here because this is an important race for PacifiCare."

- FAST FACTS: Will be his first race here...Is ranked fourth in the standings with 135 points to leader Bourdais' 182.

Sebastien Bourdais, No. 1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I think I just really tried to push the Bridgestone tires too far on a green track. I was getting frustrated that I kept going into the runoff area and I came in and we worked on the brake issues. I went back out and could only do one lap (before the end of the session) and it was good for P1. We will keep working on the McDonald's car and try to do the same in qualifying tomorrow because starting position will be very important here. It is out first time here and there has been a lot of hard work by the organization. It's not perfect but they are trying hard. The track is quite narrow and there is not a lot of room to work with. Everyone is here; there is a good crowd and that's what we need to remember. The guy who looks the best at the end of the weekend will be the guy that stops complaining and gets on with it."

- FAST FACTS: Will be his first race here...Leads the point standings with 182 to second place Paul Tracy's 161.
