About the speaker: Brian Lisles begins his eleventh season with Newman/Haas Racing in 1999 and fourth as Fittipaldi's race engineer after joining the team in 1989. He played an integral role in the development of the initial Swift Champ car.

In his first season with Newman/Haas Racing in 1989, Lisles worked as Mario Andretti's race engineer. In 1990, he was race engineer for Michael Andretti. In only his third season with the team, Lisles' hard work came to fruition when Michael Andretti became the 1991 PPG Cup champion. In 1992, he rejoined forces with Mario Andretti and worked with him through his final season of Indy Car competition in 1994. In 1995, Lisles worked with Paul Tracy who won two events. For the 1996 season, Lisles engineered Fittipaldi's two podium appearances (Detroit and Vancouver) and near first victory in Detroit (Andretti passed with six laps to go) and Road America (engine blew four laps from the end while in second place to Al Unser Jr., whose engine blew on the last lap). Fittipaldi led 80 laps during the season. In 1997, Lisles engineered Fittipaldi's car until the second race when he was hit from behind setting off a 190 mph accident. For the next six races, Lisles engineered Roberto Moreno's car until Fittipaldi's competitive return to the team. In 1998, Lisles engineered Fittipaldi's race car and assisted in his two-third place finishes.

Lisles earned his automotive engineering degree from Loughborough University of Technology, located north of London. Before switching to CART, Lisles was an engineer with the Tyrrell Formula One team for 11 years. He worked with drivers such as Derek Daly, Michele Alboreto, Martin Brundle, Stefan Bellof, Jonathan Palmer and others.

Lisles was born on October 9, 1945 in London, England. He is married to Judy and resides in Little Rock, Ark. The couple have two sons and one granddaughter.
