Pre-Race Quotes Grand Prix of Road America
Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "For the McDonald's team to clinch the championship this weekend, we would need to have a perfect weekend and our opponents would need to have a bad one. What we need to focus on is to just finish the event and leave Elkhart Lake with the same (point) lead. Then just starting the race in Surfer's Paradise would do it for us which is a similar scenario to last year but we were able to win the title in style with a victory in Australia which was what we hoped for instead of winning it just by starting. Cristiano has been on my mind since the accident; no matter when, no matter where I am. Obviously he will be a little more on my mind in Elkhart because that is where he got hurt but he is making a lot of progress and there is pretty good hope that he will recover 100 percent. That's the target and we hope to see him in a racecar again.Road America is probably the best, most beautiful natural road course in the U.S. We don't have so many road courses throughout the season so we all really enjoy this one. It has the diversity of everything; it's a long track, it has slow, medium and high speed corners and that's where the cars are really stretching their legs. It's vivid and shows on TV."
A.J. Allmendinger #7 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone --"Road America is an amazing track, it has a great combination of slow, medium and high speed corners and some pretty good overtaking spots. I know that as usual the Forsythe Team is going to give me a great car and we'll be at the top of the charts right out of the box. It's been a busy few weeks for me and I'm really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of my #7 Indeck Champ Car and winning another race!"
Justin Wilson #9 CDW Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I'm looking forward to getting back to Elkhart Lake. Obviously, the last time we were there for the test earlier this season, we experienced some difficult circumstances, with Cristiano's accident. But he seems to be making great progress every day, and we'll be excited to see him again. As for the race, I think we're in good shape. Hopefully, we can continue our tradition of doing well on road circuits, as we've done throughout the season. We want to put on a good race for Cristiano and also for CDW, since it's a home race track for them, and we'll have a lot of support from them this weekend."
Nelson Philippe #4 CTE Racing-HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It has been a long couple of weeks but we are finally going back to racing! I have been looking forward to racing at Road America since I started racing here in the US and I can't wait to have a fun time this weekend. After the successful test here in August and the great team effort in the last couple of races, I know the whole team is pumped up and I really want to leave with another podium result. The point battle is still very close so I will approach this weekend with more caution but always chasing that top spot. The key for this weekend will be to qualify up front as we have shown that our race pace is there and we can compete with the top guys. This is one of the most mythical racetracks in the world and I feel very proud to race there."
Paul Tracy #3 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The last race really helped us pick up some momentum, now what we have to do is carry that momentum into Road America and push hard for our first win of the season. We are still fighting for the fourth position in the championship, but more than anything we just want to finish the year on a high note and prepare for next year, that's the priority right now. Road America is a great track, definitely one of the best in North America and the fans are always very enthusiastic, I'm really looking forward to going back there."
Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Going into this weekend we need to be aggressive and try to get a podium before the end of the season and Elkhart Lake would be a good race to do it at leading into my home race in Australia. I've got a reasonable points lead in the rookie fight, but overall we also have to beware of how close the points are from fourth to twelfth. We didn't get to test at Road America, which is a little bit unfortunate, as all the other rookies did, so we will have to use the first day as learning day, but this circuit is more of a European style track, which really suits my style and our car, so I believe we will have a strong weekend."
Mario Dominguez # 8 Pemex/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I am looking forward to my first race with the Rocketsports team. Road America is a great track and it is always fun to race there. I am so happy to be returning to this venue, not only as a driver who truly enjoys running on it, but for all the fans that really love road-course racing. I think this series puts on a great show every time we race in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Rocketsports has had some good results in the past at Road America, earning a podium and a win in only two visits with a Champ Car. I think that goes to show the potential of this team doing well this weekend, and I am so excited to be a part of that. I am going to be reunited with my engineer, Brian Ma, and back in 2003 when we worked together I earned my best starting position at Road America with a fifth place grid spot. So with the team's past knowledge, along with the familiarity of running with its engineer and my past experience there, I think we can have a good first race together that will be rewarding for all. It is going to be a big responsibility for me with having a new team and new sponsors to impress, but I think it should be a good race for me and I can't wait to get started."
Bruno Junqueira #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "Road America is my favorite track of the season and I am sure it is Cristiano's as well. This year it will be a very different feeling to go back there but I will really try to win the race for him. I love the Road America track; I got my first win in Champ Car there in 2000. Every year I have raced there, I led the race. I have multiple poles and fastest race laps there in addition to multiple wins and podiums so it is a good track for me. It's a proper road course and the best of the year. It's the kind of track I was born for racing on; I love it. It has fast corners, long straight-aways good for passing and for sure the best track of the year. I am looking forward to the last few races of the season. I have done well in Road America, Australia and Mexico City and I know how to win at those tracks so I hope we can get a win before the season is over."
Alex Tagliani #15 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The last time I was at Elkhart Lake I won the race so it will definitely be pretty exciting for me to get back on the track where I won my first race. My first year in Champ Car I qualified third and almost won the race, but 8 laps left to go we had mechanical failure. In 2001 and 2002 I was on the front row and in 2004 I won my first race. It's a fun event and the track is so long and so big, that the fans are spread out everywhere from sitting on the hill to watching from their motor home. I can't wait to get back to racing and hopefully bring the boys home a podium."
Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing-HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It seems to have been months since I've been in a racecar; I just can't wait to get back behind the wheel for Road America. I just want to be doing my job which is being in my car, but I haven't been able to, and it's been a bit of a waiting game. I've been back to England for a week and in Canada for another week, so I've kept traveling and keeping busy in that way. I also took part in a 100 mile Indianapolis charity bike ride, which included a lap of the Speedway that took nearly a whole day! For Road America, my aim is to continue on the development path which we've been carving out through the season. We've had some strong results recently and I'm going to be looking for that trend to keep going forward. We've tested at the track, so it's one of the few that I'll have visited before a race weekend. I like the track as it has a European flavor. It's a long lap, with lots of challenging corners and demanding sections of track which require commitment and hard racing. I just can't wait for the green flag for first practice!"
Charles Zwolsman #34 Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone --"I'm really looking forward to racing at Road America in a Champ Car, I had the chance to test there in August and I really liked it. It's one of the fastest road courses and the longest we go to all year and it presents many challenges, not just with the layout of the track but with finding the right set-up and balance on the car. Things are going really well right now and we've been improving at every race. I had my best result at the last race and I'd like to build on that."
Tonis Kasemets #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I am happy to be getting back into a Champ Car this weekend, especially at Road America. It is a very special place for me. I have raced at this venue many times in various racecars. I have had good results in the past, so I hope to take the knowledge that I have of the track to increase my overall performance in a Champ Car. It is also going to be good to have an experienced teammate with Mario joining the team this race. He has been in Champ Car for a while now and really knows these cars. So hopefully I can learn something from him, while I continue to improve with my overall results for not only myself, but the team as well. Hopefully we will be able to turn things around this weekend and have a solid finish when it is all over."
