</pre> PPI Motorsports Champ Car drivers Cristiano da Matta and Oriol Servià qualified 13th and 14th respectively for Sunday's Motorola 220. Both drivers were very disappointed with today's qualifying, but are optimistic for tomorrow's race. Straight-line speed seems to be the issue this weekend, and on a track like Road America, this issue is crucial. Da Matta qualified first today, as a result of yesterday's qualifying effort, which placed him in the "slow" group for today.

Hoping to improve after a successful practice this morning, da Matta's session was plagued with red flags, and he was unable to take advantage of his qualifying strategy. Servià ran in the "fast" group today, qualifying his primary car, despite its morning shunt. Servià spun this morning, and wound up in the tires, back-end first. He returned to the track with his back-up car, but only completed three laps. The Telefonica team completed the primary car in time for qualifying, and Servià gave it his best, but was unable to break into the top ten with his effort today, which was also full of cautions and ended under a red flag condition.

Cristiano da Matta, #97 Pioneer Electronics/WorldCom/Toyota-Reynard
Morning Practice: 8th
Qualified: 13th - 1:41.161 (144.056 MPH)

On Qualifying:

"The car was better this afternoon, but still not fast enough. We have to find some more straight away speed. Also, I didn't get everything out of the car with the fresh tires, because a red flag came out. I am very, very disappointed to be starting in this position. I will just have to work as hard as I can during the race tomorrow to get as many points as possible. It is very, very important for me to get as many points as I can to remain where I am in the championship."

Oriol Servià, #96 Telefonica/Toyota-Reynard
Morning Practice: 19th
Qualified: 14th - 1:41.280 (143.886 MPH)

On Qualifying:

"The first set of tires felt very good. I felt I was capable of setting a very good time. Unfortunately, a red flag came just as I was starting to get the most from my tires and fuel. I picked up a lot of push on my second set of tires; it was very unusual. I am disappointed, this has been a tough weekend so far."
