Justin was 5th fastest in Friday's provisional qualifying session for the Generac Grand Prix at Road America (1:43.525s, 140.766mph). Newman/Haas/Lanigan's Sebastien Bourdais took provisional pole with a 1:42.385s lap (142.333 mph) which was 0.7s clear of 2nd fastest man Will Power (Team Australia) (1:43.116s) and a full second faster than 3rd quickest driver Neel Jani (PKV) (1:43.417s). Justin's RSPORTS team-mate Alex Tagliani was 9th fastest (1:43.689s).

Justin finished P4 in the morning practice session and was P2 in the short pre-qualifying warm-up, but was unhappy with the #9 CDW car's balance when it came to qualifying itself. "I'm a little disappointed with our result this afternoon", he said. "I was experiencing some understeer which got worse as the session went on. I was fairly pleased with the car until I saw the times. I'm not exactly sure what is going on, but I do know that we need to find some more speed. We just need to work a little harder tonight to hopefully improve our position on the grid during tomorrow's final qualifying session."

Bourdais and Jani both ran the softer, red-sidewalled Bridgestone tyres during one of their qualifying stints. Justin did both of his qualifying runs on the harder compound, saving both sets of reds for Saturday's shot at pole.
