The Fittipaldi-Dingman Racing team arrived in Elkhart Lake today in preparation for this weekend's Mario Andretti Grand Prix at Road America Presented by Briggs & Stratton. The 2003 Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford returns to the famed 4.048-mile permanent road course for the 21st time. Fittipaldi-Dingman Racing owner and 3 time race winner at Road America (1986, 1988, 1992), Emerson Fittipaldi will be on hand this weekend imparting the knowledge he's gained in the past with the team's pilot Tiago Monteiro.
As a rookie in the series, this will be Tiago's first race at Elkhart Lake, but not his first time on the track. "Elkhart Lake is probably the fastest road track we go to," said Monteiro. "I can see it like the American 'Spa' track which is my favorite. We had a very good day test there last month and with the improvements we've made to the car since... I am very confident that we'll do well."
Monteiro and Fittipaldi will be busy off the track as well this weekend. Monteiro will attend a media lunch on Thursday and the CART autograph session Friday, August 1st from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to be held inside the CART paddock. Fans can see Emerson on Saturday, August 2nd at the Champ Car Fan Forum from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Road America Center in the Skip Barber Building (turn 5). Also attending the Fan Forum are 1984 CART champ Mario Andretti and team owner Paul Newman.
This weekend's event kicks off Friday, August 1st with Champ Car practice from 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m., followed by another practice from 11:10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and qualifying from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Central Time. Saturday's practice is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. with final qualifying from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. Race day activities start at 10:00 a.m. with a ½ hour warm up with the race start scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
