Clarke Looks Forward to Something Familiar at Road America
Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing HVM/Ford-Lola/Cosworth/Bridgestone
Something Familiar: The 2006 season has been a series of learning new tracks for Rookie Dan Clarke, but Road America has a familiar flare. In addition to the two-day test Clarke completed at the 4-mile circuit last month, the track resembles most of the circuits Clarke trained and competed on while developing his professional racing career in Europe.
The Rookie Chase: Clarke's recent string of top-five finishes has tightened the Roshfrans Rookie of the year points battle. While Clarke sits 20 points behind Will Power in the chase, he is the only rookie to score a podium finish this season, when he finished third at Denver.
Front Runner: Clarke earned his sixth top-ten and second consecutive top-five when he finished fourth in Montreal three weeks ago. The finish resulted in a jump in the championship points standings, earning two positions, Clarke sits 11th, just one point out of the top-ten. The result was also the second consecutive double top-five for CTE Racing HVM, the first time the team has accomplished the fete two races in a row.
Dan Clarke: "It seems to have been months since I've been in a racing car; I can't wait to get back behind the wheel at Road America. I just want to be doing my job, which is driving my car, these last few weeks felt like forever. I've been back to England for a week and in Canada for another week, so I've kept traveling and keeping busy in that way. I also took part in a 100- mile Indianapolis charity bike ride, which included a lap of the Speedway, which took nearly a whole day! For Road America, my aim is to continue on the development path, which we've been carving out through the season. We've had some strong results recently and I'm going to be looking for that trend to keep going forward. We've tested at the track, so it's one of the few that I'll have visited before a race weekend. I like the track as it has a European flavor. It's a long lap, with lots of challenging corners and demanding sections of track, which require commitment and hard racing. I just can't wait for the green flag for first practice!"
