Both American Spirit drivers in the top-ten at RA; best combined qualifying results ever for American Spirit.
JIMMY VASSER, #12 American Spirit/Ford-Reynard/Cosworth
Vasser on Qualifying: "The car feels pretty good. We missed it on strategy today; I only got to run 11 laps, so I am a bit bummed about that. We've had a good start to the weekend though and I will sleep better tonight knowing that we have a good baseline to work with the rest of the weekend." "
RYAN HUNTER-REAY, #31 American Spirit/Ford-Reynard/Cosworth
Hunter-Reay on Qualifying: "It's been a good day, we have learned a lot. I had to get acclimated to the track in a Champ Car and it is just fantastic. We lost a lot of the session this morning because we had a problem with a wheel between that and no testing; we had to test some things in qualifying. In effort to save tires for the race, we decided not to go with stickers on the second stint in qualifying, which was a mistake. It will help us in the race, but it definitely didn't help us in qualifying. If we had gone with stickers we would have been sixth at the very least. Hopefully it stays dry tomorrow and we'll get another shot at it."
Stefan Johansson, Team Owner: "We're a bit disappointed because the session looked real good initially with both cars. Both guys did a good job; unfortunately, we let them down with the strategy. If Ryan had had sticker tires on the second stint, it would have been a different story. We missed on the fuel with Jimmy; I think both guys had top five cars today."
