While the team has been very gratified with Gualter Salles’ performance in the last 7 races (2 Championship points at Detroit) as well as his input regarding chassis set up for the road courses, the team feels that they need the seasoned expertise of an oval-meister like Raul to be competitive in Chicago. With the pressure escalating on the teams in the last part of the season, AAR with its unique car/tire package, does not have the luxury to leave any stone unturned and will continue to search for all the necessary elements that can put the program forward in the highly competitive CART environment of today.

The change of drivers is intended to produce a broad gathering of valuable information from a talented pool of resources that will help put together the program for the year 2000.

Dan Gurney, Owner All American Racers

"Gualter is a terrific young man and a very good driver. We've enjoyed having him on our team these past 7 races and wish him the best. In keeping with AAR’s plan to gain as much feedback as we can — with only 6 races left, we've asked Raul to step in for Chicago and give us his input. ."

Gualter Salles, Driver All American Racers

"It was an honor to drive for Dan Gurney and I wish him and the Eagle team a lot of success in the future. I think we've made steady progress, and I'm happy to have been able to help them out. AAR is a very good team and I hope they find what they're looking for."
