Rahal Joins Forces With Gloy And Ice House For NASCAR Truck Team

CART Online (November 8) -- Three-time PPG CART World Series champion Bobby Rahal and former Trans-Am and Formula Atlantic champion Tom Gloy have joined forces to field a Ford F-150 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series' final two races of 1997 as well as the entire 1998 season.

Sponsored by the Icehouse Beer division of Miller Brewing Co., the truck made its debut in last Sunday's GM Goodwrench/Delco Battery 300 at Phoenix International Raceway, where driver Dave Rezendes brought it home 15th in a field of 36.

The series finale is Sunday, November 9, at Las Vegas, after which the Gloy/Rahal team will prepare for the 27-race 1998 Craftsman Truck campaign. This marks Rahal's first entry into NASCAR racing. He owns a two-car PPG CART World Series team and recently announced formation of a 1998 Indy Lights effort for driver Mike Borkowski. Rahal and Gloy have known one another for more than two decades since competing against each other in the Formula Atlantic series. Borkowski drove Gloy's Textron Mustang in this year's Trans-Am series in partnership with Rahal.

"Tom and I raced wheel-to-wheel for many years and developed a good business relationship since those days," Rahal said. "We worked together this year on the Trans-Am series and I like Tom's professional approach to the sport. And to expand our relationship with Miller Brewing was a great opportunity for all of us."

The Gloy/Rahal Racing operation will relocate to Mooresville, N.C. on December 1 and will campaign Ford F-150 trucks with Laughlin chassis and Ford 358 cubic inch engines prepared by Lozano Brothers Engines of San Antonio, Texas.
