Dixon and Servia complete two-day test at Homestead
Miami, FL (March 27, 2002) - PWR Championship Racing completed two days of testing at Homestead Motorsports Complex today, with teammates Scott Dixon and Oriol Servia each making progress on the 1.502-mile oval. This was the first time the PWR crew tested the Lola on an oval, which enabled the team to gain valuable knowledge in preparation for the upcoming race at Motegi.
Overall the test was productive. However, Tuesday brought limited running time for the PWR team as Dixon completed only ten laps in the morning before having gearbox problems. The crew was able to make the necessary changes and Dixon, in his #7 Toyota Lola, went back on the oval completing 53 laps with a quick time of 27.2.
"Day one of the test was not so good," said Dixon. "We battled with gearbox problems and my on-track time was very limited. I only completed about seven laps in the morning before the gearbox went out, but we were able to fix it and get back out on track in the afternoon. Even with the little amount of laps I completed we were able to gather quality information, which is always beneficial. "
PWR made substantial progress on day two of the test focussing on understanding the Lola and how it responds on an oval. Servia, in his #17 Toyota Lola, completed 165 laps with a quick time of 27.0.
"I'm very happy with our test today," said Servia. "We completed a full day of testing without any problems. We concentrated on our set-ups for Motegi and I think we're really going to have a good car for that race. This was a very important test because it was the first time we tested the Lola on an oval. We tested so many things and gained a lot of knowledge, which we will apply to the race in Japan next month."
The PWR crew heads back to Indianapolis to prepare for Round 2 of the CART FedEx Championship Series in Long Beach, California, on April 12-14. Television partners CBS, Fox and Speed Channel will broadcast races throughout the 2002 season. For more information log on to www.pwrracing.com or www.cart.com
