- RuSPORT returns to Portland for round five of the 2006 Champ Car World Series with a pair of drivers who always seem to do well at Portland International Raceway, Justin Wilson and Cristiano da Matta. In 2005, Wilson led a total of 43 laps in Portland, before a mechanical problem took him out of the race. Da Matta, who was driving for PKV Racing at the time, took advantage and led 50 laps on his way to winning the race, posting the 12th victory of his Champ Car career.

- Portland will mark the first race of the 2006 season that da Matta will compete as a member of RuSPORT, driving the #10 RuSPORT car. He joined the team on June 9 after competing in the first four events of the season with Dale Coyne Racing in the #19 car.

- Da Matta's victory in 2005 was his second win in as many starts at Portland, with the first coming in 2002, the same season he won the Champ Car World Series Driver's Championship with Newman/Haas Racing.

- Wilson will start at Portland after a hard-fought performance in Milwaukee that resulted in a second-place finish behind Sebastien Bourdais. It was Wilson's third runner-up result in four races this season. Da Matta hopes to improve after a 13th-place finish at the Milwaukee Mile that included some mechanical problems with his Dale Coyne Racing #19 machine.

- Wilson and the #9 CDW / RuSPORT team have consistently shown good speed at Portland. Wilson won last year's Bridgestone Pole Award at Portland, and posted three of the four fastest lap times and the second-fastest lap time overall during a Champ Car open test at Portland earlier, this season.

- Wilson currently sits in second place in the 2006 Champ Car Driver's Championship standings, just 31 points behind the leader, Sebastien Bourdais, while da Matta holds the ninth position in the standings and is just 14 points out of the top-five.
