Tagliani rolls into Portland for G. I. Joe's 200

Portland, Ore. June 16, 2003 - Round Eight of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford takes the Rocketsports team and driver Alex Tagliani to G. I. Joe's 200 at the Portland International Raceway. This is the second of back to back west coast races for Tagliani, who looks forward to the busy, fun weekend. "There are many events planned at the track and around the city for race fans this coming weekend," said Tagliani. "There's always a fun atmosphere in Portland so it should be a good weekend."

Tagliani's priority this coming weekend is the # 33 Johnson Controls Lola and his drive at the P. I. R. Tagliani turned the quickest laps in the first day of testing in Portland this April. He and his engineers will look to the data from the successful April test to prepare for this weekend's G. I. Joe 200 race. "The team has a short time to prepare the car for the Portland race, but we plan to use the baseline set-up we used during the open tests here earlier this year," said Tagliani. "We were able to run well in the tests so we hope to get the set up we need to run a good race."

In addition to preparing the car, Tagliani is taking time between races to ready himself for 100 laps on the 1.969 mile Portland track. Tagliani usually reviews notes, watches race tapes and even plays racing video games to plan his driving strategy. When he's at home between races Tagliani will also train everyday. A typical session includes one to two hours of cardiovascular work and weights to develop his strength and endurance, which he'll need for the two hour, ten minute race set for this Sunday.
