Frustrating weekend for Neel Jani in Portland

The fourth Portland ChampCar championship round turned out to be a frustrating weekend for Neel Jani, in qualifying as well as during the race. He finished the race in twelfth position and was clearly not happy with the result.

The weekend began with a promising fourth place in the first free practice. But for the 23 year old Swiss, tenth was the best he could achieve in both the qualifyings. The Sunday free practice in the rain saw him in third place.

On Sunday just before the start of the race the team discovered a leak in the fuel tank, which resulted in the methanol seeping under his seat during the race! As methanol effects the human skin, you can imagine what Neel must have gone through the whole race. Due to this problem the fuel consumption went up and resulted in earlier pit stops than planed, denying him a better result.

"Our race pace was not brilliant, due to a number of other problems. So to sum it up, I was really very disappointed with the result.

Next week Neel is testing in Elkhart Lake for two days, just before the race weekend in Cleveland in two weeks. This will give him a chance to get the car working better. So he is optimistically looking forward in the future.
