Justin in pole position for Grand Prix of Portland

After a sunny first qualifying session on Friday, heavy rain on Saturday brought significantly slower lap times for final qualifying, earning Justin his fifth Champ Car World Series pole position.

Though it was clear from the start of the session that Justin had pole in the bag, he still went out and drove hard for the single championship point on offer for fastest time in the session. In the end his best lap (1:11.670) was 3rd fastest, just four hundredths of a second shy of the session leader Robert Doornbos (Minardi Team USA). Justin lines up alongside Robert for tomorrow's race, which will begin with the first standing start in Champ Car history. Sebastien Bourdais (Newman Haas Lanigan) and Justin's RSPORTS team-mate Alex Tagliani line up on row two.

"I wanted the point, and I wanted to prove my point as well", said Justin after celebrating the result with the #9 team and proud sponsors CDW. "But at the same time we still had to make sure we had a race car for tomorrow. There are times when you're sliding around and you can't see what's ahead of you, so you don't want to do anything silly. I just tried to pick my moments and put a good lap in." Looking ahead to tomorrow's race, and the new starting procedure, he added: "Hopefully we can get a nice clean start and get into the first corner with all the bits still on the car and go from there."
