Franchitti & Tracy lead Honda qualifying

The Team KOOL Green duo of Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy again led the Honda-powered field here at Portland International Raceway in qualifying action today for Sunday's G.I. Joe's 200. Both improved their times from Friday's first-round qualifying, but Franchitti still slipped from fourth to seventh today in the very close field, the Scott just seven-tenths of a second slower than pole qualifier Cristiano da Matta.

Tracy also went faster today, holding on to the ninth spot, while Michael Andretti in the Team Motorola entry moved up four positions to 12th overall. Tony Kanaan and Shinji Nakano moved up one position each today, while Adrian Fernandez slipped back four spots after complaining of being unable to find the proper balance for his Team Fernandez Honda.

Tomorrow's 110-lap race will be broadcast live on the CBS television network, starting at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

Dario Franchitti (#27 Team KOOL Green Honda) Qualified 7th: "My first qualifying run today was pretty good, the only problem was traffic on the race track making it hard to get a totally clear lap. We made some changes on the car today, but in all honesty, I have to say I think the car was a bit better yesterday. I'm a bit frustrated right now, although we are in much better shape here than last weekend at Laguna Seca. So we're making progress, and with the new rules I think we'll have a flat-out race tomorrow which should be a lot of fun for everyone."
