FORSYTHE TEAMMATES PAUL TRACY AND MARIO DOMINGUEZ TO START ON 2ND AND 3RD ROWS IN PORTLAND
PORTLAND, Oregon -- June 18, 2005 - Forsythe Championship Racing teammates Paul Tracy (#3 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) and Mario Dominguez (#7 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) will start from the second and third rows respectively for Sunday's G.I. Joe's Presents the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland. On a day when warmer temperatures and sunny skies conspired to heat the track up and keep most drivers, including Tracy and Dominguez, from improving their lap times from Friday's cool and cloudy first round of Qualifying, there were a couple of moments of excitement nevertheless.
Dominguez had an incident in the practice session just prior to the Qualifying session when he lost control coming into the final corner and spun into the tire wall, slightly damaging the #7 car. The Forsythe crew went to work quickly and got Dominguez back on track early in the Final Qualifying round. "I made a mistake and crashed" said Dominguez, "but the Forsythe Team made repairs quickly and the car was pretty good. Unfortunately the track was a lot more slippery today because of the warmer weather so not too many people were able to improve on their times. But we're up near the front so the race should be good." Dominguez will start from sixth spot on the grid.
Tracy was also unable to improve on his time from Friday Qualifying, but a question mark arose when a Red Flag came out during a quick lap when a power surge caused the Champ Car timing and scoring system to shut down. There was some question as to whether the lap would have been an improvement, but in the end a reconciliation of timing data confirmed that results were correct. Tracy was satisfied overall. "The car was pretty good but the track was slower today so there wasn't much we could do. The cloud cover we kept hoping for showed up just after the checkered flag unfortunately. But we're in a good spot for the start tomorrow and the car is good on long runs so I'm optimistic for the race." Tracy will start 3rd, directly behind Pole Winner Justin Wilson.
The Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland Presented by G.I. Joe's gets underway at 12:45pm local/PT (3:45 ET, 19:45 UTC). The race will be broadcast LIVE on CBS in the USA and via the Internet using Race Director, available at the ChampCarWorldSeries.com website.
