Conquest Racing Atlantic Team of Ricci and Lee Wrap Up Their Double Header Weekend at Portland
Indianapolis, IN, June 10, 2007 -- In a race riddled with yellow flags, the Conquest Racing Atlantic Team drivers Giacomo Ricci and Matt Lee were able to finish their weekend strong by improving upon their starting positions. While weather was an issue during the first race of the weekend, there was only a slight drizzle during a short time in the race and the team was able to attack the challenging course.
At the start of the race, Matt Lee (#44 Mazda-Cosworth/Swift/Cooper) was able to jump up to 15th from his 18th position start and his teammate Giacomo Ricci (#18 Mazda-Cosworth/Swift/Cooper) was right behind him in 16th. The entire race was filled with yellow flags and ended up with just over 15 minutes of yellow giving the drivers only 31:30-minutes of green flag in which to attack. Both drivers finished better than their qualifying places with Giacomo Ricci improving seven places to finish the race in 12th position and Matt Lee improving three places to finish the race in 15th.
"We had a tough job today but I was able to move up from 19th to finish the race in 12th place," said Ricci. "I feel that we had a much better race today, my driving felt much better and I think I was more comfortable. Everyone on the team worked really hard and I'm looking forward to taking what we have learned here to round six in Cleveland."
"It was a difficult weekend and I wish we could have finished in a higher position," said Lee. "I'll now be looking forward to the Cleveland race and working toward a better performance. The team and I will look to see what can be worked on and improved for this next round."
"Both of the drivers worked very hard today and I'm proud that they were able to improve their finish over their qualifying positions," said Steve Ragan, Conquest Atlantic Team Manager. "There was a lot of yellow during the race which made passing very difficult but it was great to see Ricci improve seven places and Lee improve three. The entire team will now be working hard to get everything ready for the Cleveland race where we hope to improve our standings."
The Conquest Racing Atlantic Team now looks forward to the sixth round of the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda at the Grand Prix of Cleveland on Sunday, June 24th. The race will be broadcast on ESPN2 on Wednesday, July 4th beginning at 6:00 p.m. EST.
