Vasser to make 12th Start at PIR.
Jimmy Vasser, #12 American Spirit/Ford-Cosworth/Reynard
Vasser's History at P.I.R.: Traditionally Portland International Raceway has been a better qualifying track than race track for Vasser. He has started in the top-ten in seven of the past 11 events, while he has finished in the top ten in two of the last 11 events. Vasser's strongest qualifying and race result at the tricky 1.969 mile natural road course came in 1995 when he started and finished second.
Le Mans: American Spirit Team Johansson team owner and legendary race car driver Stefan Johansson finished third last weekend at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in Le Mans, France. Accompanied by teammates Emanuelle Pirro and JJ Lehto, Johansson drove nearly nine hours in the Audi R8 for Champion Motorsports.
First Rate Hospitality: American Spirit Team Johansson's first rate hospitality features five star dining, entertainment and seating for 70, led by Rick Downey; former drummer for the rock band "Blue Oyster Cult".
We Have a Winner: Congratulations to John Bartos of Williamsville, New York. Vasser on Portland International Raceway: "It's an honor to represent Ford Racing as they continue their centennial celebration. Portland has not been my most successful track, but it is a great racetrack. It's tough; I think experience will pay off there this year. You have to really understand the track and be able to slide your car around a bit to maximize the place. If we have rain it will be especially interesting."
