PARIS, France, November 28 Californian Patrick Long, fresh off his close second in the British Formula Ford championship, will join an celebrity cast of racing superstars -- including drivers from Formula One and CART -- when he competes in the Speedy World Cup Indoor karting extravaganza in Paris, November 30-December 1st.

Formerly known as the Elf Masters de Bercry, the event is a high-profile fundraiser organized by ex-Formula One driver Philippe Streiff. Speedy drivers will compete in identically prepared karts powered by 125cc motors. Past participants include Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost, Mario Andretti, and Aryton Senna. The Speed World Cup will be carried live on Eurosport television.

Long will compete in a category for drivers who have graduated from karts and are progressing through the junior ranks, such as Formula Renault, Formula Ford, Formula 3, Formula Nissan and Formula 3000. Since participation at Bercy is by invitation only, Long's appearance reflects his rising status in the world of motorsport.

Long placed a close second in this year's Slick 50 British Formula Ford championship (three victories, two pole positions, and six podiums) -- the highest-ever placing by an American driver. At the British Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, Long won both his qualifying heat and his semi-final heat before a controversial ruling barred him from the final. British Formula Ford is widely recognized as the most prestigious junior racing series in the world.
