Miami, FL (February 7, 2000) -- PacWest Racing unveiled the colors of Mark Blundell's Motorola PacWest Mercedes-Benz for this year's FedEx Championship Series during a spectacular launch at the Firehouse Four restaurant in Miami, Florida tonight.
The design of the Motorola car mixes the company's traditional blue, blazing orange and Mercedes-Benz silver layout.
Following a theme of "Fire & Ice" the covers were removed from the Motorola machine as well as the new-look #17 Champ Car of Brazilian Mauricio Gugelmin, which is now sponsored by leading telecommunications company Nextel.
Both cars will be on track for the first time in their new colors on Wednesday during the first day of the annual Spring Training open test session at the Homestead Miami Speedway.
PacWest Racing President Bruce R. McCaw looked on with other invited guests as Blundell and Gugelmin broke apart large wooden crates covering their chosen machines for the 2000 season after arriving at the high-profile party on the back of a new City of Miami fire truck.
"Although Motorola announced an extension of its contract with PacWest back in August, tonight was the first time we had the chance to publicly look at our 2000 colors," said McCaw.
"Our graphics team worked closely with Motorola to finalize this new design which will hopefully be as fast on the track as it looks off it."
Bob Schaul, Corporate Vice President, Motorola, Inc., was on hand to watch Blundell strip the covers from his new machine.
"Motorola has enjoyed the emotional highs and lows that motorsport has to offer during the past three years and we have enjoyed every minute of it," said Schaul.
"This year we believe we have the driver in Mark Blundell, the engine package from Mercedes-Benz and the team at PacWest Racing to help us experience some more of those great highs only this sport can provide.
The first round of the 2000 FedEx Championship Series will be held at the Homestead Miami Speedway on March 24-26.
