DETROIT (July 29, 1999) - Championship Auto Racing Teams announced today the launch of the CART Charities on-line auction.

Quokka Sports, Digital Sports Entertainment Partner for CART, has designed a special CART Charities page on CART's Internet site - cart.com - with pertinent information regarding the charity, and details on how fans can participate.

The auction, which begins August 1, will be ongoing. The first round of the auction, however, will conclude November 1.

"Through the generosity of CART's community, authentic items and 'unique experiences' will go on the block on specified dates for a fixed period of time," said Andrew Craig, CART's Chairman and CEO. "The majority of the funds raised will be donated to the Buoniconti Fund, the national fundraising arm of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, as well as the Championship Auto Racing Auxiliary (CARA)."

Auction items include a Newman/Haas Racing Team fire suit, signed by Paul Newman, Carl Haas, Michael Andretti and Christian Fittipaldi; an invitation to the "Get into the Race" VIP Celebrity Party at the ESPN Zone in Chicago in conjunction with the Inaugural Target Grand Prix; and CART Chief Steward Wally Dallenbach's signature hat.

Fans can continually bid on auction items, and at the close of an item's auction period, the item will be awarded to the highest bidder. Fans can go on-line to check the status of a bid, view new items and see previews of upcoming items.
