Newman/Haas Racing concluded successful test at Road America in preparation for the Mario Andretti Grand Prix at Road America.

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (June 27, 2003) - Newman/Haas Racing ended a successful one-day test late yesterday at the top of the speed charts at the 4.048-mile Road America road course in preparation for the Mario Andretti Grand Prix at Road America on Aug. 3. Both PacifiCare driver Bruno Junqueira and Lilly driver Sebastien Bourdais participated in the test for the team and posted the first and second fastest lap times, respectively, on a day that featured 11 drivers on track.

"The car was good and we were able to put in a 1:43.02 lap time which was the best for the day but we know everyone will keep working hard before we come back to race so we have to as well," said Junqueira, who earned his first Champ car victory on this course in 2001. "I love driving on the course. It's my favorite track of the year. The baseline of the car was already very good but we made some improvements that better suit my driving style. I'm looking forward to the race already."

"The test went pretty good, we ended one-two and accomplished a lot during the day," added Bourdais, whose lap time of 1:43.3 was second fastest unofficially. "It is a neat place and it a lot of fun to drive but it's unbelievably quick. It's a track where if you put a wheel off in the grass it's over - you crash. It's a tough place. I can see how the driver's who have won here say it's an accomplishment they are very proud of."

After a two week trip for the events in Monterey, Calif. and Portland, Ore. the team began preparation for the test at Road America but will now work over the weekend to prepare for a two-day test at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Monday and Tuesday with both drivers. Once that is completed they will travel down the road to Burke Lakefront Airport for the US Bank Grand Prix of Cleveland on Saturday night, July 5.

"We completed our test program and are pleased with the results," added Brian Lisles, General Manager of Newman/Haas Racing. "We are looking forward to coming back to race here as it's always been a home event for the team. Both the PacifiCare crew and the Lilly crew as well as the shop-based guys have worked hard to prepare for the back-to-back races on the West coast, two tests and another two races in Cleveland and Toronto. It's a busy time but this is when the Championship begins to take shape and everyone on the team has worked hard to keep us in contention for the title."

Newman/Haas Racing, owned by actor/race car driver Paul Newman and racing entrepreneur Carl A. Haas, is the most successful team competing in the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford racing series sanctioned by Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART). The team will begin their 21st season in CART in 2003 and will attempt to score their first back-to-back CART title as well as their fifth overall after winning 70 races and 73 pole positions. Current drivers Bruno Junqueira and Sebastien Bourdais, were preceded at the team by Mario and Michael Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Paul Tracy, Christian Fittipaldi and reigning 2002 CART Champion Cristiano da Matta.
