CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI, #11 Big Kmart/Route 66 Ford-Cosworth Lola
QUALIFYING POSITION: 8th (1:14:093)
"The car is not good. We are still working on finding a good set-up. It's going to be a long day tomorrow. I haven't given up. We can still find a good set-up. It is obviously hard to pass here so we made our job that much more difficult. (On reputation as a good driver in the rain:) Personally I don't like driving in the rain. I don't think anyone here likes driving in the rain but if it does, you just have to get on with your job and make the best out of it. It is better for the fans if it doesn't rain although they sometimes see a lot of action in the wet. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow and we will be very disappointed if we can't do a good job for Kmart in the race."
MICHAEL ANDRETTI, # 6 Big Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Ford-Cosworth Lola
QUALIFYING POSITION: 11th (1:14:783)
"The car was not good and the penalty didn't help us sort that out. I ran out of fuel on Friday and was penalized eight minutes. Eight minutes out of a session that is only 20 minute time-certain is a big amount but the car was not that great anyway. We might have been able to improve a few positions but not enough to start in the front two rows. It's going to be difficult to win from 12th place but Tracy won from 17th. It would be unusual but anything is possible in racing.
(On proposed new course:) "Dad helped design the new course and it looks good. I hope they can come to some sort of agreement. I like racing in Detroit. There needs to be an open wheel race in Motor City. It's good for our sponsor, Kmart, as well since they are based here (Troy) and bring a lot of people to the races."
