Junqueira recovers to win inaugural Bridgestone Potenza 500

Bruno Junqueira raced to victory from the pole position to capture the first Bridgestone Potenza 500 conducted at Twin Ring Motegi. Bridgestone, the Official Tire of CART, celebrated title sponsorship of the event with another exciting and unpredictable result.

Junqueira, in the Target/Chip Ganassi Toyota/Lola on Bridgestone tires, overcame a pit stop mistake to take the lead for good four laps from the finish of the 201-lap event. He crossed the finish line 12.282 seconds ahead of runner-up Alex Tagliani for his second career CART victory and first on an oval.

Joe Barbieri, Bridgestone/Firestone Motorsports Project Supervisor:

"It was an impressive and memorable day for the Bridgestone Motorsport program. We witnessed the first Bridgestone title sponsorship of a CART event and enjoyed the sensational performance put on by the Potenza racing radials. The tires were never in question and the drivers had the confidence in them to try numerous racing lines and bold passing maneuvers. Excessive wear was again no issue and Bruno Junqueira credited tire consistency for helping him to the pole position and the win. We'd also like to thank our Japan-based Bridgestone associates for their hospitality and helping to put on such an entertaining weekend for all the fans."

Bruno Junqueira, Target/Chip Ganassi Racing Toyota/Lola/ Bridgestone:

"The car was very good from when we started running Thursday. I ran really fast all day. The Bridgestone tires worked very well. At the end of the race, I had no problems, no marbles building up. There was no difference from new tires to old tires, which was the case all weekend. I'm really happy with that."

Race session track temperatures ranged from 87 to 92 degrees Fahrenheit and 31 to 33 degrees Celsius.

Race session ambient temperatures ranged from 63 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 17 to 21 degrees Celsius.
