Adrián Fernández, Owner/Driver -- #51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Lola/Bridgestone:
Finished: 12th [Contact Lap 70] Started: 16th
"It was a frustrating weekend. We just had too many problems in practice and qualifying, and during the race with the boost. Basically straightaway we had no power so something happened with the exhaust or something there. On the crash, I was just trying to stay in touch [with the cars in front of me] and I went a little wide in the corner [Turn Seven]. There were too many marbles and they basically took me into the wall. Physically I am fine. We just need to keep working hard."
FAST FACTS: This was his 157th Champ Car career start --- only owner/driver in current Champ Car field --- currently ranked fifth among active drivers in career wins with seven --- is ranked 10th in CART all-time career starts --- currently sits 14th in the championship with 39 points --- has 47 career road course starts to his credit, finishing over half in the top 10 --- three of his seven Champ Car career wins were on road/street circuits - Australia (2000), Mid-Ohio (1998) and Toronto (1996).
Shinji Nakano, Driver -- #52 Alpine/Mitsuba Honda/Lola/Bridgestone:
Finished: 9th Started: 9th
"Unfortunately I stalled the engine on my pit stop [Nakano was running in sixth at the time]. I had a problem with the gearbox and the car kept jumping gears. It was supposed to be in first and it was in second gear. It went from neutral to second. I had a big problem at the end of the race with upshifts - second to fourth, second to fifth. Other than that, the car was so good. I was saving the brakes and it was so easy to drive. We changed the car quite a lot from yesterday to today, and made big progress for the race. The team did a good job with the setup. We have had good race cars, but we need to work on our qualifying setup. If I can start from the top three, I have the confidence to stay there. It's unfortunate we had this gearbox problem, but I am very happy with what the team did this weekend. Honda also did a good job. The engine was really good throughout the weekend."
FAST FACTS: This was his 50th career Champ Car start --- Has finished in the points the past seven races, dating back to Portland on June 16 --- claimed career-best road course finishes this season - 10th at Cleveland and ninth at Mid-Ohio --- has made 17 career road course starts, claiming five points-paying finishes --- is in his third season of Champ Car competition, and second year with Fernández Racing --- currently sits 15th in the championship with 39 points.
Tom Anderson, Co-Owner/Managing Director:
"I have to say that this is not exactly how I wanted two cars in the points today with Shinji ninth and Adrian 12th, but that's the way the scorecard will show it at the end. It was a rough weekend and a big learning curve for us here in Montreal. We certainly look forward to coming back next year and being better prepared. It was a great race in a great city and I look forward to next year:"
