Skip Barber-trained drivers dominated the first qualifying session of the CART FedEx Molson Indy in Toronto today. Juan Montoya, Helio Castro-Neves and Michael Andretti completed 3 of the 4 best times on the 11-turn, 1.72 mile temporary street circuit. Veteran Pro Series driver Montoya finished his best lap in :58.997 seconds, an insignificant .020 seconds off the provisional pole. Castro-Neves and Andretti followed closely within .4 seconds of Montoya. Brian Herta, 1991 Pro Series Champ, also finished in the top-10; 9th in the field.

For Montoya, a pole this weekend would be the Colombian’s 4th of the CART season. A legitimate challenger for the prime grid spot is Castro-Neves, who celebrated his first victory at the Detroit Grand Prix last month. Qualifying continues tomorrow with session 2 scheduled for 1:45PM EST.

In Indy Northern Lights Racing Series news, Skip Barber grad Greg Ray led the Thursday practice session of the Midas 500 Classic at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. He tripped the clock with a best day time of 213.616 mph. Ray has dominated INLRS qualifying this year and is overdue for his first victory. Pole qualifying is scheduled for Friday evening at 7PM.
