CHAMPCAR/CART: Monterrey: Saturday quoteboard

Sebastien Bourdais ...

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It was a little bit of a crazy session. We went out there and didn't really know what to expect with the option tires. But Bridgestone had pretty similar compounds, just a little grippier. We didn't guess it exactly right, so we got the red flag, pit, made a change, went back out, and definitely the balance was a little better. We really capitalized on that. I had clean track, two laps in a row. That was exactly what I was looking for. We just got it right. Could not be any happier for the McDonald's team. I think it's quite an achievement to do that four years in a row. I just really like this racetrack. I hope it's going to be good to us tomorrow because it's always been a bumpy ride for the race. We'll see what happens."

Justin Wilson #9 CDW Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It was pretty good. Not quite as good as yesterday. You know, like AJ said, it's very difficult to set the car up around here. The slightest change you make wrong, rather than it being half a 10th or a 10th, it's going to be 3/10ths. You have to really work hard on making very small adjustments, trying to keep the car in the right window so it works well. Generally it's been working pretty good. We made some changes to the right direction, ready for the second qualifying. But, you know, part of the gamble we took yesterday to use the alternate tires for that one lap paid off. We knew it would hurt us a little bit today. We didn't have a very good buildup and understanding of what the tires liked. Maybe we could have done a better job. Under the circumstances, I'm pretty happy with the way we've worked, the whole CDW #9 car crew have done a great job. I am looking forward to the race now."

A.J. Allmendinger #10 RuSPORT Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I was fairly pleased overall today with how it was going. Practice, we were fairly quick. You know, a bit disappointed in qualifying. I didn't think we got the car exactly right. But, you know, I'm pleased to be in the top three, at least in touch with the front. As everybody said, it's going to be a long race tomorrow, it's going to be difficult. I think we got a little more fine tuning to do with the car. I'm looking forward to tomorrow. It's going to be a difficult race. If we can get through turn one clean, go racing from there. If you can just get a consistent car that's got a good balance on the Bridgestone tires, you know, I think you'll have a good car throughout the race. As we were talking about, if you just miss the setup just a touch, it's going to be a difficult race. Hopefully we go back and get the car right for tomorrow and have a great race."

Bruno Junqueira #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "The car was pretty good. I think I could get really close to Sebastien. I think it could have been P1 and P2 for Newman/Haas for sure in the session. It was frustrating to get so much traffic but mostly because it was intentional traffic. On the first run I started the lap and Mario was in front of me and my second lap was a pretty good lap but he (Mario) made a small mistake in Turn 11, the last turn, and put so much dirt on the track so I just tried to survive there. I lost so much time. On the next lap my tires were dirty in Turn 1 and I went off. Then on my last lap I put everything together and put the car in P2 for the session so I was pretty confident I could get really close to Sebastien and challenge him on the second set. Then I got Oriol in front of me the whole time on my second set. He was trying to run a lap then would slow down which would block me, then run a lap, slow down and I would have to slow down as well. This happened all three laps. I tried to back off to open a gap but he would too so I was never able to put a lap together and give the team and myself some good results. We have a great race car. It's going to be really hot and it will be hard on the drivers. It will be very easy to make a mistake so we will need concentrate very hard."

Paul Tracy #7 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "It's been a frustrating weekend, we can't seem to solve some issues that we have with the car and it's kept us from getting closer to the front. We've been having problems with the brakes, as soon as I try to go deep into the braking zone I lock up and its slowing me down. It's going to be a tough fight tomorrow, this track is very slippery and between that and the heat there's going to be a lot of mistakes out there, if we can have a consistent race without any mistakes and good pit stops I know that we'll be able to finish on the podium and keep adding points to our chase for the Vanderbilt Cup."

Alex Tagliani #5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I'm a little bit disappointed today because we seem to be stick in sixth place. We are okay because we are in the top ten, but we would like to be quicker and are struggling right now with the grip. Our car has been running pretty good overall. The guys did a great job fixing the car after the little problem that we had this morning which helped the car run well in today's qualifying session. We have been running well in the races. For tomorrow's race, I'm hoping we will improve more and then work from there to get a podium,"

Oriol Servia #6 Gulfstream - PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The Gulfstream -- PKV Racing team's qualifying session did not go as well as we had hoped coming into this weekend. We expected to be a little better, but, to be honest it was our best qualifying session this season. We are .03 out of sixth place...still far away from the pole, but we are getting closer to the front of the grid. Hopefully, this will be a safer spot to start the race and we can get some points toward the championship. Overall, I am happy. The PKV Racing team is working very hard to improve the car and we are making progress."

Mario Dominguez #7 Pride of Mexico INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I wish I could've given all the Mexican fans and my new sponsor Roshfrans a better qualifying result but unfortunately we have not been able to find a good setup for this track. We've made some slight improvements but it hasn't been enough. We are going to work very hard tonight and tomorrow during warm up to make sure we have a good race car. The support from the fans here is amazing, as soon as I got out of the car today there were tons of fans cheering for me up in the stands, I walked across the track and threw my Roshfrans hat and one lucky fan got to keep a really cool souvenir. I know that the Pride of Mexico will be felt tomorrow here at the Tecate Grand Prix of Monterrey Presented by Roshfrans."

Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Today the car was much better for me. I worked with the engineer and he got the car going really well. It's disappointing that we don't have the car ready at this time of the weekend, it would have been better to have it sooner, but that's life. I'm happy compared to where I have been to be qualified in the top ten. Overall the car is good; we can make it better and more consistent for tomorrow's race."

Charles Zwolsman #34 Mi-Jack Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone --"We missed nearly the entire session this morning because of an oil leak on the car. Then we decided to make a change before this session, it was okay but there is still work to do on the car. We will keep working hard. Nevertheless this is a positive result for us, tenth, and we are making a step in the right direction."

Andrew Ranger #27 Tide/Mi-Jack Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone --"This morning in practice we had a lot of oversteer on the car and in qualifying we just couldn't find the right balance. It's disappointing because we couldn't improve our time that much from yesterday but tomorrow is another day. It's going to be a long race, last year I started 14th and finished second so we will try to the same thing this year."

Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing-HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -"I have learnt a lot over the past few races. Monterrey is my third start in a Champ Car. I have had a few difficulties that have made the learning a lot harder than it could have been. Now we have ended the day positively with a clean run, so the crew doesn't have as much to work and it makes everyone's lives a bit easier. In this session, we showed a lot of potential. Everyone can now look forward to a long race tomorrow and bring in some points for the standings."

Nicky Pastorelli #8 Bavaria City Racing/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "Well this is not good. We are very close to finding a good balance to the car here in Monterrey, but we are still struggling with understeer problems. We will work hard tonight to try to solve the issue for tomorrow. The goal will be to have a good race, stay clean, and try to bring the #8 Bavaria Race City/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone car home in the top ten."

Katherine Legge #20 Bell Micro - PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "Obviously, I am very disappointed. I made a few mistakes out there today and it cost me. At this point I just have to learn from my mistakes and keep going forward. The Bell Micro -- PKV Racing crew has been great. They have worked very hard and continue to be extremely supportive. I am just sorry that I couldn't have given them a better qualifying effort today. Hopefully, I can make it up to them by doing a good job in the race."
