Car troubles for Haberfeld in Monterrey qualifying

Monterrey, Mexico - Brazilian race car driver Mario Haberfeld (Walker Racing) has qualified a disappointing 16th place for the start of Sunday's Grand Prix of Monterrey. Haberfeld was having a successful weekend, finishing every practice and Friday's qualifying session in the top ten. His qualifying session on Saturday, however, was marred by engine problems with his Reynard. "The engine had some problems, which we attempted to fix during the qualifying session", said Haberfeld, adding that "but once we fixed them, there were only a few minutes left in the session, making it impossible for us to warm up the tires."

An interesting twist in today's qualifying session, was the fact that Champ Car changed it's format overnight. The series had originally instituted an experimental format for Monterrey, which was put in place in yesterday's session, and was to continue today. However, due to dissatisfaction by a number of drivers after yesterday's session, Champ Car officials suddenly reverted to a format similar to the ones used in past races. Basically, all drivers took to the track together with their best times determining the starting grid.

With the qualifying drama finally over, Haberfeld has his hands full in tomorrow's race. The Brazilian, however, is keeping a positive attitude. "My starting position is a bit disappointing, but the car has been very good overall this weekend. My strategy for tomorrow is to be patient and try to gain spots one at a time", concluded the driver.
