Mario's Ready to Race in Monterrey

Native Land: A native of Mexico, Mario is one of the most accomplished of the four Mexican drivers in the Champ Car World Series. He became a National hero last year when won in Miami and followed that performance with a podium finish in his hometown, Mexico City. Mario made his Champ Car debut in Monterrey in 2002 and has since accumulated two victories and three podium finishes.

Monterrey 2003: Mario started the 2003 Tecate Telemex Grand Prix from the eighth position but his day ended early with contact, leaving him 13th. However, Dominguez was running in fifth before his contact and set the second-fastest race lap.

Preparing the Fiesta: The Tecate Telmex Grand Prix is one of the busiest for Herdez Competition chef and former Monterrey resident Hector Benavides. Hector is preparing for at least 500 guests this weekend and he anticipates 1400 meals will be served. Everything served at the Herdez Competition hospitality is homemade by Benavides and his crew. It's a tall order to prepare for this many people; an example of Benavides's recent grocery shopping trip included 80 dozen eggs, 100 lbs. of bacon, 200 lbs of fajita steak, 35 whole chickens for mole, 700 chicken breasts, 200 lbs of Oaxaca cheese, 120 lbs. of Dona Maria refried beans, 10 gallons of each of Herdez's three salsa's, 85 cases of Herdez juice, 150 cases of beer and to go along with the 35 gallons of tequila...100lbs. of limes.

Mario on Monterrey: "I can't really describe the feeling of being a Mexican driver racing at a Champ Car race in Mexico. It is unbelievable. We have the most loyal, energetic fans in the world and I am so proud to represent them. One of my goals in life definitely, is to win in Mexico, the Mexican fans deserve it and I intend to give them their first victory in Mexico. It will be a busy weekend, we have so much support from our sponsors and all of our Mexican partners will be here cheering us on. The Herdez team has been flawless in all of our testing and in Long Beach. We have been making steady progress and we have been fast, I think we have a good shot this weekend in Mexico and I am very excited."
