Justin qualifies 2nd in Monterrey

Having taken provisional pole in first qualifying on Friday Justin was guaranteed a front row start for Sunday's race, yet he pushed hard in Saturday's final qualifying session in an effort to take pole. Justin's best lap of 1:13.532 (103.008 mph) was significantly faster than Friday's and good enough for 2nd in the session, but Sebastien Bourdais set the pace with a 1:13.253 to secure pole position. Monterrey will be Justin's second front row start of the 2006 season, and his RuSPORT team-mate A.J. Allmendinger lines up third on the grid, with Bruno Junqueira, Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani rounding out the top six.

"We had a pretty good afternoon", said Justin. "It's very difficult to set the car up around here. The slightest change you make wrong, rather than it being half a 10th or a 10th, it's going to cost you three 10ths, so you have to really work hard on making very small adjustments, trying to keep the car in the right window so it works well. We made some changes in the right direction ready for the second qualifying. Part of the gamble we took yesterday to use the red Bridgestone tyres for that one lap paid off, but we knew it would hurt us a little bit today, because we didn't have a very good build-up and understanding of what the tyres liked. But under the circumstances I'm happy with the way we've worked and the whole #9 CDW crew have done a great job. I'm looking forward to the race now."
