Champ Car Friday Quoteboard
PAUL TRACY (#3 Player's/Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone): "It was a good day for Team Player's to be first and third on the grid on the first day. I'm very happy that we were able to put it on the provisional pole. I had a good first run on the first set of tires when I did the time, then we made a couple changes. We felt we got the car better. Then the second set of tires, we went out and I was just held up with traffic the whole time, wasn't able to get a lap together. I didn't feel we were going to be able to hang on to that position, but obviously we did. I think we'll need to improve tomorrow."
ORIOL SERVIA (#20 Visteon/Patrick Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone): "I was a little bit of a nightmare. It was impossible to get a clear lap. Every time I had a lap, Patrick [Carpentier] would slow down and I couldn't finish the lap. Always the last turn, though. So it was a little bit frustrating. I think we had a good car all day. We had a good car in St. Pete, in Sebring. You know, we'll see tomorrow. But I think we are in definitely good shape."
PATRICK CARPENTIER (#32 Player's/Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone): "Not too bad. I'm pretty happy actually because we didn't get much of a chance to run this morning. We had some problems and we had to skip the second session, only did a few laps. Coming back this afternoon it didn't seem to go too well early on in qualifying. It was all over the place. Everywhere there was grass, I was there, except on the asphalt. I finally got it together and put a lap at the end. We're pretty happy actually starting from where we started."
MICHEL JOURDAIN (#9 Gigante Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone): "I wanted to be a little bit better than fifth, but the track will be better tomorrow and on Sunday. So we have to get the car better and while fifth is good, we want to do better. It was very hard to get a lap in the second half of the session, but I has able to get a little space and post a quick lap."
MARIO DOMINGUEZ (#55 Herdez Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone): "Early in the qualifying, I hit a curb really hard and did a little damage to the car. But the set up on the car is really good right now anyway. The red flag toward the end of qualifying really hurt us. I was up 6/10ths of a second on the back side of the track on that lap so it would have been really fast I think. After that I just couldn't put together another lap like that with the traffic and things. But I don't feel bad with 8th right now. We have the car and we have the speed so I know I can get the lap I need tomorrow."
ADRIAN FERNANDEZ (#51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone): "I think we had a decent day but I am still not 100 percent happy with the car in terms of race setup. It is the same problem we had in St. Petersburg and a little in Sebring. We need to do some changes to make the rear of the car more forgiving. We need to settle the rear so we can put the power down a lot quicker. It was the same situation in the morning so we have been changing a lot of things. Bridgestone tires have been very consistent and the track gets better and better the more we run. It is just a matter of being patient."
ROBERTO MORENO (#4 Herdez Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone): "Well to be honest, we are struggling a little bit to get the car to work at the back end the way we want it to. But we'll keep chasing it until we get it right. The track itself is in great shape. They've made a few improvements to it since I last raced here two years ago. I think it was a good crowd today too - it seems like there are a lot of people out there around the track."
PATRICK LEMARIE (#27 PK Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone): "Well, we are working hard. We had a few problems at the wrong moments. We're not showing our best right now, but we know what direction we have to take tomorrow. The track will be quicker, and we are expecting to have a good day."
